I've been thinking about how all of the fic I read lately is about boys.  I'm feeling pretty glum about it.

(These fandoms I've been following, guys, they are killing me with the woman-hate.  SPN and Merlin and Sherlock and their shiny, sexy boys and their dead or evil or broken (or what's maybe worse - uninteresting) women.  It becomes so easy to pretend those dead women don't matter, because they don't matter in canon, and they don't matter in a lot of the slash out there, and all that woman-hate is creeping into my brain, and I've got to start saying no to that shit.)

I had a whole rant written about my genderfail shame, but I think a more productive approach would be to actually go read some fic about women.  Maybe renew my reading of [livejournal.com profile] where_no_woman  and [livejournal.com profile] femslash_today , then work my way back to some old-school Xena fic.  But I also want to find new characters and fandoms and stories, ones I haven't experienced yet.  And I do know that if I actually start looking for it (instead of waiting for it to show up on the rec lists and comms that I've been following), I will find it.

So I'm wondering, f-list, where do YOU go when you want to read about female characters?  Which fandoms and comms and authors produce really juicy female-centric and feminist fic?

I've been told some of the most amazing fic about women (including but not limited to femslash) comes from the Devil Wears Prada fandom -- I could never stand to check it out because I loathed the whole premise of the show, and don't like that sort of 'realism' -- but apparently there's all sorts of reclamatory work being done over there.

Reeeaally. I've seen DWP come up some times in femslash rec lists but had avoided it due to my dislike of the movie. Maybe I'll give it a try.
Thanks for the rec.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised myself--and I'm afraid I cannot remember who told me (and I never actually read), but the comments of the recommender stuck in my mind.

Check out [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon, which is a women-centric multifandom fest that just ended (it runs annually from Feb 1-14). Vids, recs, fic, icons, picspams galore.

I'm eagerly reading the comments. Because, dude, WORD. Also, this is one of the reasons I love Merlin AUs so very much. Morgana <3 Gwen 4EVA.

Oh, Morgana/Gwen, that is true and lovely stuff. I really should read more of it. You wouldn't have any recs handy, wouldja? *hopeful face*

I suppose I should just hie myself over to the kink meme delicious page and search for M/G.

Nothing I haven't sent you already. My fandom reading has dwindled rather dramatically lately. :( But I look forward to the ones you are about to send *me*! *beams*

Oh, but you could check out http://ladiesbigbang.dreamwidth.org/ - I never got around to reading over there, but hey, bigbang!

Hmm, let’s see. I admit to being bad at keeping up with girl-centric fics and fandoms. I'm a slasher through and through, to the detriment of the ladies unfortunately. But I do keep track of communities with the hope that I'll follow them one day.

There's the AO3, most of which also link to a LJ or DW:
Half a Moon
Where No Woman
Femslash Kinkmeme
Fem Gen Ficathon, a large gen ladies collection.
LGBT Fest, All AO3 collections will let you filter by F/F under the Category tags
Queer Characters
Female Focus
There are actually quite a few female or femslash-centric AO3 collections, you just have to look through the Collections page.

And then there's Livejournal:
The Little Bang, a femslash Big Bang
Real Women Fest, a RPS kinkmeme
Passion Perfect, a multifandom community

And some others:
The Porn Battle, which has LJ, DW and AO3 communities.
some Delicious bookmarks by Zvi
My Delicious, which has some extra things I didn't link above.
Female Fest, a DW community centering around women

Whoops, here's a working link for Female Focus and the AO3 Collections page.
