I've been thinking about how all of the fic I read lately is about boys.  I'm feeling pretty glum about it.

(These fandoms I've been following, guys, they are killing me with the woman-hate.  SPN and Merlin and Sherlock and their shiny, sexy boys and their dead or evil or broken (or what's maybe worse - uninteresting) women.  It becomes so easy to pretend those dead women don't matter, because they don't matter in canon, and they don't matter in a lot of the slash out there, and all that woman-hate is creeping into my brain, and I've got to start saying no to that shit.)

I had a whole rant written about my genderfail shame, but I think a more productive approach would be to actually go read some fic about women.  Maybe renew my reading of [livejournal.com profile] where_no_woman  and [livejournal.com profile] femslash_today , then work my way back to some old-school Xena fic.  But I also want to find new characters and fandoms and stories, ones I haven't experienced yet.  And I do know that if I actually start looking for it (instead of waiting for it to show up on the rec lists and comms that I've been following), I will find it.

So I'm wondering, f-list, where do YOU go when you want to read about female characters?  Which fandoms and comms and authors produce really juicy female-centric and feminist fic?

Right now, I'm writing about Audre Lorde.  Or at least, I was writing about Audre Lorde.  Then I decided I needed an Audre Lorde icon.  Then I couldn't find one. .  All the feminist icons I can find seem to feature white women.  Maybe I'll have to *make* an Audre Lorde icon.  Don't know how to do that, but seems like a good project.  Made an icon.  Instead of writing, that is.

I love Audre Lorde.  I like lesbian feminist writers of the 80s in general.  I may not strictly agree with all of their theories, but they're just so sexy.  Nobody writes so lovingly, so sensually about the female body as lesbian feminist poets of the 80s, I think.

Here, have some sexy Audre Lorde poetry: )
