This is my week for srs acronyms. I spent the past weekend at the SXSW Interactive Trade Show, helping to pimp my friends, the wonderful guys at
Monkey Wrench Design. Being an academic, it was strange and exciting to see how the "real" businesspeople do business. Really, except for the talk of profits and costs, it's not that different from an academic conference: panels, business cards, "what do you do?," and so on. The difference, of course, was that I had to assemble 16 dancing robot monkeys, which were
awesome, but still. All I have to do at
ICFA is click my Powerpoint forward.
The Powerpoint which is still not finished. I'm working on it now, but I want it to be fun and informative but not get in the way of my paper and yet really illustrate all of the fun and sexy things I will hopefully have to say. I've never been to a real conference before, so I'm kind of
nervous. Especially since I'm on a panel with some
amazing scholars. Perhaps they will have advice on how one goes about making a career in fan studies.
This was first my LJ entry after 10 years in fandom. *waves at world*
